Merry Chistmas?

Why do I get Muslims wishing me "Merry Christmas"?

Seriously?

Guys, I believe in sacrificing lamb and reading out the takbir on the morning of eid NOT that guy in the red suit or those elves that help him pack his presents nor do I believe that 25th of December is the birthday of my Prophet Isa (pbuh).

I'm fine with non-muslims wishing because most of my friends ASSUME that EVERYONE celebrate christmas. So, they are uninformed but you Muslims are being IGNORANT by wishing your fellow Muslims the latter.

Oh, speaking of Christmas; I know of several brothers and sisters who are reverts to Islam and they have difficulty explaining to their family members that they don't acknowledge this festival.
I don't have much knowledge on this but if any of you readers have experience with this particular situation, do enlighten me on it so I can tell them what to do in return.

Bring in the comments people ;)

A'qilah Saiere.

I think it is best not to greet them so as not to acknowledge their shrik. There is nothing merry about christmas anyway as this is what will bring them towards hell

Weheey go A'Qilah ;) When I get people wishing me merry christmas, I tend to say "Oh thanx, you too, enjoy the holidays" *then smile and look friendly*
On the issue of converts explaining to family, or even muslims explaining to non muslim friends that u dont celebrate christmas, start off by saying in Islam, rather than just having ONE holiday i.e. christmas, we have TWO holidays - we call them Eid, and its celebrated giving presents out and stuff too likee people do on christmas - this way the person ur talkin too wont think that its totally weird that u never get presents, which to a lot of peopple these days is what all christmas is about.
Then, go on to say muslims dont tend to celebrate christmas because they dont believe that Jesus (a.s.)was born then, muslims believe in Jesus as an important prophet, and that hes not associated with God in any other way. Again, here the person ur talkin to wont think ur weird nd diffrent, nd theyll see the similarities ;)
Then the person u talk to will most likely be like.. so u dont celebrate christmas? everyone celebrates christmas! What do u do on christmas day then? Now here, u should totally mention how we have TWO holidays rather than one, then theyll be like ok i spose thats cooler.. but aside from that, its important to remind the person ur speakin to that christmas is really a christian holiday, and since a lot of people dont think of themselves as christian these days, and still go on to celebrate christmas, theyll be a lil dumbfounded and thatll keep em thinkin ;)
And u can always be like, "but hey I love the christmas spirit when evry1s in the spirit of giving and all, its so nice to see evry1 happy at this time of year",and that way u dont sound like ur offending them or anythin ;)
Hope that helps! Its so much easier to just come out nd explain that u dont celebrate christmas, rather than havin to make up the imaginary presents u got, and the great fun u supposedly had. Plus, its dawah ;) For me, Ive never had trouble with a person after explainin properly that i dont celebrate christmas, and trust Ive gone thru the explanation a tonne of times with all my non muslim friends, who were always understanding when i explained (nd maybe a but jealous about the fact that we have DOUBLE the amount of holidays :P) just remember to be friendly :D

I know im like sooo late in commenting on this, but oh well. heh.
with the really really limited knowledge I have/remember on this topic, christmas came about when christianity came to europe. at that time, they were already celebrating some pagan day thingy, which has some thing to do with the Sun god, on the 25th dec. so to "attract" them to christianity, they "adopted" the pagan culture. that's how it came about. (but like I said, I don't have much knowledge on this)
Anyway, not many do know about this so it's easier to just wish them happy holidays instead. and those muslims who are just ignorant, hopfully they'll take in the advice and may Allah forgive us all. insya'Allah (:
